The USC School of Cinematic Arts has a long and storied history. It was established in 1929 by the same group of people who started the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a group which included Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. SCA faculty and alumni include some of the most famous, prolific, and respected filmmakers in the history of the cinema, including D.W. Griffith, Robert Zemeckis, Ernst Lubitsch, George Lucas, Ron Howard and Walter Murch, to name but a few.
Playing the game is the one and only pathway to the hidden layer of the SCA. Participating even very casually will get you noticed by the Reality Committee. The more you participate, the more the Committee will work to connect you with unique experiences and active alumni in areas of the media industry and academia that are relevant to you. Even engaging just a little will open up new opportunities and discoveries. Exactly what those are will become clear with time.
Media making is a habit. This game is the way to get a quick fix or nurse a long-term addiction. Play big or play small, serious or casual — it’s up to you. The game is entirely optional. But then again, so is everything in the world of media-making. Success, however you define it, is not mandatory. Your future is up to you.
